I've been breastfeeding for 10 1/2 months now (and plan on doing so until Ian turns a year old -maybe longer)....I've never had any problems until last night....one of my nipples is very sore...I'm not sure if it's because he's latching on differently or what, but it almost feels like an internal bruise. 1-Has anyone else gone through this, what can I do to relieve the pain, and how can I correct the problem? Thanks in advance!

  1. Totally agree with Peanut Butter, sounds like a plugged duct, I got this immediately after I started breastfeeding.  It is a very simply fix, just put a warm pack on it for 1/2 hour so and it should go away w/i a day or less :)

(just be sure not to have it be TOO warm or you'll burn the sh&t out of your boob like I did!!!!)

  2. Sometimes your nipples become very sore and a latch is very painful before your period returns. Have you had your period yet? If you don't think it's a plugged duct, it could just be that. Any other PMS symptoms? Before my period returned my nipples were VERY sore.

  3. i have only been breastfeeding for almost 5 weeks now. but if the pain ur describing is what i think it is, I'm going through the same thing right now. i was sore the first week and better up until this bast few days. what my lactionist told me was A:no more pacifiers it makes them latch on differently. B: get a more "lifting"bra. and C:when u shower, place ur hand lightly over ur nipple using the oposet side (like left boob us right hand) and raise ur other arm and let the water hit ur chest from the side like were ur arm pit it.

  4. do you pump? you can always try pumping until the soreness goes away.

  5. Try  using breast pads,  expressed milk on your nipples,  and use some pure lanolin

  6. Often with a plugged duct, you can feel a tiny knot under the skin, but not always.  The best thing to do is to apply moist heat to the area.  Like a warm wet washcloth, keep rewetting with warm water.  Or get in the shower.  After you've had the wet heat on a few minutes, try massaging the area, and then more heat, and then try massaging again.  Then go nurse your baby on that side.  Try this several times, and it should clear it up if it's a plugged milk duct.

  7. The bruise sensation you describe sounds like a plugged duct.

  8. maybe a plugged duct.. Ive heard those hurt.. If it is a little red/sore you may have a yeast infection.. Check your son for white in his mouth..
