I am currently 5 weeks from delivery and have decided that I really want to breastfeed my daugther. I am planning on purchasing one of the automatic Medela pumps because I will have to go back to work in 6 weeks. I have already purchased the playtex dropin bottles and liners and wanted to know if you these two will work together to freeze directly into the liners or how this works. No one in my family has done this so I need all the help I can get! Also, any other advice or suggestions would be appreciated!!! Thanks ahead of time.

  1. you can actually buy a conversion kit from playtex that will fit your medela just fine. I did this with my son and it was very convenient. And the kit is very cheap.

  2. The medela pump is great. I have one. ( $300) if i remember correctly. I am a mother of 2 and have and still are breastfeeding. Do not use the bottle bags b/c they arent as strong. If you have to you can use a reg zip lock bag. But they do sell the breastmilk bags. I use the Lanisnoh breastpads and Lanisnoh milk bags(purple box) you can find this at your local walmart or target maybe a few other places. Get the nipple creme too! and to store the milk if you choose to store some, dump in the bag when your finished pumping and dtore it in the freezer and it will last up to 6 months in a small freezer and last over a yr. in a full freezer or deep freezer. to defrost, will your kitchen zink with hot water and place the bag in the water and lwt defrost. then when done defrosting pour in bottle and give to baby.

  3. I believe that the playtex drop-ins are not freezer proof.  However the gerber self-standing milk storage bags can go in the freezer and fit playtex bottles.

The platex liners are BPA free.  I believe the gerber milk storage bags are as well.  You can also use the liners with the "breastflow" bottles.

Personally I think a paladai is the best option for feeding and glass jars for freezing are the best option.  Also use fresh milk as much as possible.

This is the best source I can find though *sigh*

  4. I use the Medela pump and my daughter only likes the playtex bottles with drop ins. I have never frozen it, but what I do is pump into the Medela storage bags, freeze them. And then just before feeding her I heat the bag under warm water, and then pore them into the dropins. =)

  5. A tip that no one really talks about...Don't use plastic bottles in the microwave. It's best to use glass, especially early on. It's proven that when plastic gets warm (in microwave or straight from the breast), it releases a chemical. My point? They don't know what causes cancer and other health problems. Play it safe with the type of bottle you use. Switch to plastic when they start drinking only cold liquids. Good luck!
