my son favors one breast more than the other, he just recently started on my left one but has really really favored my right one. to the point where my right breast is MUCH larger than my left. it is very noticable. is this going to be like that for the rest of my life? im trying to get the left one to the same size...its just not filling like it should.

what can i do about this? the right one just isnt filling and i would like to know if it will be noticable after im done breastfeeding.

  1. It should not be noticeable after you are done nursing. It is normal and even common for one breast to be a bigger producer. Make sure to start the baby off on the breast that is NOT the big producer. That way you're emptying it out sooner and it will start to catch up. Whatever you do, resist the urge to pump or nurse the "extra" milk out of the big one, because it operates on the basis of supply and demand. Even though it's uncomfortable, if you empty it it will make MORE! Congrats on being a nursing mommy. Breast is best for your baby.

  2. do you have a pump??  if your that concerned i would pump with the left one and let him nurse of the right one.  they will eventually be the same size

  3. My 3rd one always liked my one side too, can't remember which.  I don't know if it was easier for him or just I was more comfortable holding him on one side vs the other.  Try latching him onto the one that is less frequently used first - he will be more likely to latch and nurse more aggessively.  That might help balance out the supply.

But no, even if you only nurse from one breast, after you wean him, you should go back to normal.  Or a new normal, anyways... ;0

  4. THis happened to me too!, and it definitely affected my b***s.  My first daughter preferred one side, and it looked weird, so with my second daughter I tried to switch it up and even them out, didnt work.  The one he nurses on will be droopier than the other.  On the bright side, you never question which boob he nursed on last:)

  5. Start his feedings on the right side until your production evens out. Once it does, start alternating sides on which he starts feedings. My son had this problem also at first, and how I dealt with it was alternating his position. He would feed on the left side in any position but I could only get him to latch in the football hold on the right side. So you can also try that. And to answer your question, your breast will never be exactly the same, even if he does start feeding on both sides. However, my MIL only fed on one side and her b***s are atleast an inch and a half different now, so try to correct this now just in case. And congrats on breastfeeding!

  6. It happened to me to, and everyone I asked. Don't worry to much, I am sure it will be ok later again. If you are to worried, ask your doc. the next time you go for a check up.

  7. Feed from the one he doesn't favor first every time for a while, it may stimulate it to produce more milk. Both my children preferred the same one, but not to the extent that it made any noticeable difference to the size of them. One week into breastfeeding is still very early days so hopefully things will even themselves out! Congratulations on the baby and breastfeeding!

  8. maybe you can pump the other one to get the same amount of milk and even them out

  9. After breasting I think they will both level out
