Question:

Breathing pattern while erging?

Hey, new rower here trying to bring my erg times down, ive got a question about when you're supposed to breath on the erg. I've heard inhale on the catch and exhale on the drive, is this right? It seems like when I try to do this it really slows down my breathing and I do worse. But usually I just kind of gasp for breath whenever I can, which can't be right. Any help would be appreciated :)

  1. Check these sites (you can find more on the web) for breathing info:

If you want to improve on your erg times this kind of “interactive-program”- http://www.concept2.co.uk/training/inter... can be helpful for a beginner. Just chose your “Athlete Level” number, select how many times you will train a week, how many weeks to your “race”, your current 2,000m time, your age, your resting heart rate and away you go. You can also work with a certified rowing coach or indoor rowing instructor.

Also make sure you eat correctly -http://www.concept2.co.uk/guide/guide.ph... , http://www.pittsfordcrew.org/Nutrition/N... ,) and get proper rest (8-10hrs of sleep).

Always stretch before and after a workout -

Welcome to this life.  Good luck and row hard!
