Bree Arthur crashes down to 13th position in Indian Open
Australian Bree Arthur crashed down to the 13th position in the final round of Hero Women’s Indian Open 2012 after she posted an overall 217.
Arthur found herself standing at a comfortable position at the end of the second round of three-day tournament, played at the DLF Golf & Country Club, New Delhi, India, as she posted an impressive
67 to share the lead along with Thai Pornanong Phatlum.
However, a woeful 80 in the final round rattled her and she tumbled to the share of 13th position on the leaderboard.
The Aussie star started the tournament with plenty of confidence as she was determined to gain an early lead. However, she managed to post a 70 in the first round on Friday—a sensible start
that promised to give her room going in the second round.
However, the ambitious golfer was not satisfied with her first-round performance, saying in her interview that she could have done much better, putting herself in an even stronger position.
“I went out today with no expectations and I knew the course owed me a few shots as I got a bit unlucky yesterday,” said Arthur who currently stands the 51st position at ISPS Handa
Order of Merit.
“I walked off the ninth having three-putted and got quite angry so I said, ‘that’s it: I’m going to go for everything,’ because I should have been four or five under on the front nine”.
Commentators said that she blew several chances on Sunday, which was regrettable.
Arthur started the final round in a jittery style as she bogeyed the first hole. She then parred the next four holes and carded another bogey on the par-5 6th hole. On the back
nine, the LET (Ladies European Tour) titan tainted her scorecard as she posted one birdie, five bogeys and one double bogey.
Phatlum, who saw Arthur as a threat to her position in the second round, remained in contention till the final moment of the tournament, posting an overall score of 203 to win the title once
again.
Phatlum is the two-time victor of the tournament as she notched up titles in the 2008 and 2009 events.
