Question:

Breed of Olympic Showjumper?

I just saw a US showjumping rider on a horse that was HOT. He had his head straight up in the air the entire time!

Just curious, but what was his breed? The guy's name and the horse's name were both german, I think. One of their names was Carlsson von something. Wish I could be more specific! Sorry!

  1. I was wondering if someone would mention the head in the air thing.

Sorry i can't help you with the breed but i would like to mention the head thing.

Because of horses eye placement they can not see straight in front of them selfs. they have whats called a blind spot, im sure you know that and that there is also one right behind the horse.

when a horse is jumping, the fence goes out of their eye sight and into this blind spot about 3 strides away.

In order to see the fence the horse must lift his head up, otherwise their could be problems.

The reason their heads seem so much higher in the olympics then the horses at local shows and at home is because well simply the fence are that much bigger causing them to lift their head that much higher.

so it's not really hottness that causes them to lift their head.

    I hope that made sense.

  2. Probably a Hanoverian, Holsteiner or ISH.

  3. I'm going to take a guess that you're talking about Will Simpson and his horse El Campeon's Carlsson vom Dach. Does that sound right?

If so, he's a 12 year old Hosteiner gelding.

Here's  link to an article about him and there's a picture too so you can see if that's the right horse.  http://www.regardinghorses.com/2008/08/1...

    I hope that helped!

  4. It might have been an Oldenberg, Holsteiner, Thouroughbred or a Hanoverian.

  5. I think most of then are either Hanoverians, Holstieners and Warmbloods or TBS
