Hi I want to get some kind of lizard and i think i finally settled on a bearded dragon. However, i have a 55 gallon tank, not breeder, and i'm not sure if thats going to be good enough. I would much prefer a breeder tank, but i dont have enough money to get one the size that i want. Does anybody know where i can find a cheap one, or how to make one, or any other suggestions on what to do?

  1. There are a few problems with a 55 gal for a lizard and really reptiles in general...

    1. They are very narrow. I believe they are right around 12 inches. This doesn't really give a 14-18 inch lizard adequate turning room.

    2. Because they are so tall, it makes it very hard to regulate your temps.Bearded Dragons love a really hot basking spot. Even if you get one spot to be 105 degrees, you can not properly down grade the temps, you will have a drastic difference on the other side of the tank.

If you are going to buy a young or baby Bearded, You could buys a 20 gallon long tank for now. That tank would last you a while. And you would have time to save up for a 40 gallon breeder tank. That is really the best size. And one Bearded can live perfectly in that size.

    Good Luck!
