Breeders' Cup: A crown of the horseracing world
The Breeders' Cup World Championships is one of the few horseracing events like The Derby, The Grand National, The Royal Ascot and The Cheltenham Festival that have gained global fame and recognition.
Despite the fact that this tournament commenced relatively late, it has achieved a lot of repute and commercial value.
Currently, the Breeders’ Cup poses to be a high-profile racing series that is held every year. Like other events, it does not stick to a venue only, but the organizers keep shuffling it to Belmont Park, Churchill Downs, Hollywood Park and Oak Tree at Santa
Anita.
The grand fair was the brainchild of the owner of the Gainesway Farm, John R. Gaines, who conceived this idea in early 1980s.
At the beginning stage, it was hard for Gaines to convince the breeders, trainers and commercial sponsors on holding such a big event, but he did not lose heart.
After a strenuous struggle of a few years, he managed to garner a lot of support. Till 1984, this festival has been taking place regularly.
The two-day tournament comprises of at least 15 races that are Breeders' Cup Classic, Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Sprint, Breeders' Cup Juvenile, Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf, Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf, Breeders' Cup Mile, Breeders' Cup Sprint, Breeders'
Cup Turf Sprint, Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile, Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Turf, Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies, Breeders' Cup Juvenile Sprint, Breeders' Cup Ladies' Classic, Breeders' Cup Marathon and Breeders' Cup Turf.
Breeders’ Cup Classic poses to be the most significant and rich race. The runner, who wins this, is regarded as the best.
The winner of the 1984 edition of this contest was Wild Again. Since then, a number of ace horses have accomplished this glorious title. Last year, Drosselmeyer brought home the magnificent victory.
As the Breeders' Cup World Championship 2012 is scheduled to take place on November 2 and 3, there lies great enthusiasm and thrill about it. The sport fans are eagerly waiting to watch some classy runners fighting at Santa Anita Park. The betting market
is too on rock. Let us see who becomes the winner this year.
