Breeders’ Cup 2011 - Mr. Nedawi first qualifier after Clasico General Belgrano win
under Jose Aparecido da Silva
Brazilian Mr. Nedawi earned an automatic qualification for the Breeders’ Cup Marathon this year on 4 November, Churchill Downs after he defeated Calidoscopio in the Argentinean Group 2 race, Clasico General Belgrano.
Mr. Nedawi won his second race of the year, the first one coming back in January in Uruguay when he captured the Group 1 Gran Premio Jose Pedro Ramirez. It wasn’t an easy win for the seven year old Brazilian bred, since the track was sloppy and he was among
11 powerful horses.
Trainer, Joao G. da Costa, stated that this sort of distance is Mr. Nedawi’s distance and he was expected to do well in the race despite tough competition. A 2,000-meter race usually includes a fast lot of horses and to win is an extraordinary achievement.
An easy going horse, who likes to run his race, is a bright prospect in this year’s Breeders’ Cup.
The seven year old brown horse has had two big wins this year, one coming in January at Uruguay and the other on 20 June, which takes his win tally up to 14 for his entire career.
Trainer and owners will be looking forward to the Breeders’ Cup because Mr. Nedawi is comfortable on short runs and the Breeders’ Cup Marathon is 1 ¾ miles, which will suit Mr. Nedawi.
It was an easy victory at the Clasico General Belgrano for Mr. Nedawi. He started slow but approached nicely towards the other horses and let the horses around him get into a slight lead.
It was a tactical move by jockey, Jose Aparecido da Silva, to set Mr. Nedawi up for the final turn. Approaching the final turn Mr. Nedawi gave it his all and showed that he can sprint when it comes to the stretch and sprint he did.
The horses that were let loose by the pair were no threat at all, as he easily passed them, and, zipped through to the wire for a relatively easy win.
A globally renowned series called the Breeders’ Cup series, which consists of 68 stakes altogether and its one of the premier races of the US, keenly observed by horse racing fans all around the world, as well as trainers, and, jockeys to be part of this
prestigious event.
Many horses such as Mr. Nedawi, winners of different races, will be given starting positions in the Breeders’ Cup World Championship.
It seems as if Breeders’ Cup at Churchill Downs will be a true success again with all the International Raiders in contention, the marathon of a series will start on 4 November.
