Breeders’ Cup 2011 – President Greg Avioli replacement search, Mark Wilson and Farvel candidates
Since Greg Avioli’s resignation, the hunt for the new president for the Breeders’ Cup continues.
His absence has left a void at his previous position and that has prompted the officials to outsource help from Spencer Stuart, a firm which specializes in finding executives.
The selection could be public once the usual July meeting takes place on July 14.
The officials have refrained from disclosing the probable candidates for the position mainly because it is out in the open that search has been narrowed down to two candidates.
The media is unaware of the situation especially since, Jim Gluckson, Breeders Cup communication officer, revealed that they cannot comment on the search or the candidates until and unless the search is completed.
The candidates presumably for the running were Del Mar’s President Farvel, who responded that he cannot comment on the situation because nobody has either informed, or, confirmed anything.
Since the inception of the Breeders’ Cup, it has had five presidents in all and this time around they want to make sure that they make the right decision, because replacing Greg Avioli will not be an easy job, especially when he was excellent at his job
and ran the operations to meet the growth of the organization.
It will be important to call someone on board who shares Greg’s broad vision and carry on the future development of the Breeders Cup.
It is going to be difficult to top Greg Avioli’s efforts, which already brought an ample amount of success to the Breeders Cup. To name one that stands out, Greg managed the 2006 Breeders’ Cup World Championship at Churchill Downs, where records toppled
the previous records to bring home a grand total of $140 million.
That was the biggest financial success in the 23 years of Breeders’ Cup history.
The decision making should be accelerated because the site for the 2012 Breeders’ Cup World Championship is still not decided and for that they will require leadership.
Mark Wilson, who became the Chairman of TV Games Network, is also in the running for the Breeders’ Cup president. Wilson has time and time again revealed his love for horse racing and looks to be a suitable choice for the next Breeders’ Cup President.
Breeders’ Cup is financially healthy and all it wants is a president who can float it to more successes and come up with innovative ideas. Greg Avioli surely left the organization at a very sound position, steering it after him should not be a problem.
Be it Farvel, or, Wilson, the worthy to candidate to run the affairs of Breeders’ Cup, will be decided on June 14, 2011.
