Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Sprint winner Hightail pointed toward the Delta Downs Jackpot
The 2-year-old colt by Mineshaft, Hightail has had an intriguing career so far, and without any victories in 8 previous races leading up to the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Sprint, Wayne Lukas trained colt won his maiden in the Breeders’ Cup World Championship by landing the $500,000, 6 furlong sprint over Santa Anita Park’s dirt track on 2 November, 2012.
Bluegrass Hall’s Hightail had jockey Rajiv Maragh onboard, and the duo came up with the great ground saving trip, while rated just off the lead in the early stages of the sprint, but always looking to shake loose.
The pair hunted for room from the three eighths pole to the quarter pole, but they found their opening when the field rounded off the bend to enter home, as they sneaked on the inside and rolled up the rail to forge ahead of the leader, Merit Man.
Hightail in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Sprint was cutting back to 6 furlongs from 1 1/16 miles that he ran in the Grade 1 Dixiana Breeders’ Futurity at Keeneland, and finished sixth in a field of 13 to winner, Joha, on 6 October, 2012.
Out of Storm Cat’s mare Stormy Renee, Hightail is one of 15 horses to be pre-entered in the Grade 3, $1 million Delta Downs Jackpot, as the 1 1/16 mile event will unfold on 17 November, 2012, strictly restricted for 2-year-old males.
Another entrant to lookout for the $1 million event is, Bern Identity, who won the Grade 2 Sanford at Saratoga, but he falls in the preference list because of his local prep win in the $200,000 Jean Lafitte Stakes.
Similarly, Overanalyze the Grade 2 Futurity winner at Belmont Park will be preferred over other entrants with Goldencents, who finished second to Breeders' Cup Juvenile winner, Shanghai Bobby in the Grade 1 Champagne Stakes.

The entries for the race will be finalised on 14 November, 2012, and the field will be limited to 10 horses.
