Breeders’ Cup Mile a possibility for the world’s no 1 colt, Frankel
Horseracing fans around the world could be in for a real treat, because all of a sudden Frankel is a possible for the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Mile at Churchill Downs on 5 November, 2011, and that may be his only chance to face Goldikova which could turn out to be a spectacle and increase the popularity of the already popular Breeders’ Cup significantly.
When asked about Frankel’s trip to Churchill Downs this year’s Breeders’ Cup Mile, trainer Sir Henry Cecil and owner Khalid Abdulla kept saying that he will not go to Churchill Downs this season, well that was their stock answer.
However, it is a possibility and first things first for Frankel as he is scheduled to run in the Group 1 Queen Elizabeth II Stakes at Ascot over a mile on 15 October, 2011.
The son of Galileo, out of Kind by Danehill, Frankel will go for his ninth straight race, and the number 1, 3-year-old colt has won all of them.
It was widely assumed that Frankel would not race after the Group 1 Queen Elizabeth II Stakes, and after he will be done for the season, but on 13 October Teddy Grimthorpe, the racing manager for Khalid Abdulla said there is a possibility that Frankel could race in the next month’s Breeders’ Cup.
Frankel is coming off a huge win in the Grade 1 Sussex Stakes, where he defeated Europe’s top mile, and now retired, Canford Cliffs by a massive margin under his regular rider Tom Queally at Goodwood racecourse on 27 July, 2011, over a distance of 1 mile, which he completed in 1 minute and 37.47 seconds.
In the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes, Frankel will face with the likes of Richard Hannon trained Dubawi Gold, Side Glance, Immortal Verse , who has most recently defeated Goldikova and Bullet Train.
9 wins in as many stars, Frankel has gone on to earn $ 1.3 million in 2 years of his racing career, and he is expected to be pointed toward the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Mile, and the unbeaten colt is yet to race outside of England.
