Breeders’ Cup winning mare Shared Account retired after racing in the same race she won last year
The 5-year-old Sagamore Farm owned mare, Shared Account has been retired from racing after her seventh place finish in the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Turf to Canadian winner Perfect Shirl at Churchill Downs at about 1 3/8 miles on 4 November, 2011.
It was the same race that Shared Account managed to win last year by defeating the champion British mare Midday, who is also retired now, finished second in the 2010 edition of the Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Turf.
Jockey Edgar Prado was aboard Shared Account each time she won at the highest level. After coming out of her last start, the daughter of Pleasantly Perfect, out of mare Silk N’ Sapphire by Smart Strike, Shared Account is scheduled to be sent to owner Kevin
Plank’s Sagamore Farm near Glyndon, Md. Breeding plans are undecided.
Trained by Graham Motion, Shared Account this year raced five times without a win, even without a finish on the board and the best she managed was to finish fourth in her season opener in the Grade 3 Gallorette Handicap at Pimlico racecourse on 21 May, 2011,
on turf at about 1 1/16 miles.
“She came out of her last race very well and without any problems,” said trainer Graham Motion. “We toyed with the idea of racing her next year but decided she had done enough.”
In the year 2010, Shared Account won the Grade 3 All Along Stakes at Colonial Downs over at 1 1/8 miles and then afterwards she managed a second place finish at Saratoga when she participated in the Grade 1 Diana Handicap on 31 July, 2010, also at about
1 1/8 miles.
As a 3-year-old, Shared Account with two 6th place finished in her first two starts of the season, finished on the money twice in her first four starts. Her first win of her 3-year-old career came in the Grade 2 Lake Placid Stakes over her favoured
distance 1 1/8 miles.
She finished second in the Grade 1 Garden City Stakes at Belmont Park with the same kind of performance in her next start, the Grade 1 QE II Challenge Cup at Keeneland.
