Hi there. I was wondering if a cage that was 6' long, 28'' wide and 3' tall would be a good size to house a pair of amazons for breeding.

  1. 3' tall isnt very tall?

Find a local Amazon breeder and ask them about breeding and raising chicks.

Make sure neither one of yours plucks. Also have you had experience hand-feeding since they often have a hard time with their first clutch. Are they your pets? Are they friendly with people?

Do you have time to properly socialize the babies? Trust me, a well socialized baby makes a world of difference in its pet ability. Harness training and all that stuff needs to be started early. They often need more than just handfeeding them.

Also how do you plan on hand-feeding them? Spoon? Syring?

  2. It is going to need to be about 3' wide and 4' high.  Make sure you have an attached nest box that has a door where you can check what's going on inside.  The Nest box must be the right size too, or they won't breed.  You will also have to be sure to give them privacy, and check eggs often.  Amazons and Greys are famous for breaking eggs and killing young.  Many times it is much better to incubate the eggs in an incubator.  Leave the eggs with the mother as long as possible (this usually gives a better chance at a very healthy chick) and then finish the incubation in the incubator.  Please read my profile
