Looking to breed my female rabbit. The vet told me she is looking to have babies and was wondering if she would have s*x with her babies? or would the babies have s*x with each other. Ive read alot on breeding rabbits but would like a little more info. Also wondering how many she can have up to as i would like to keep the babies.

Thanks !

Are you prepared to find good, loving homes for all of them. and if you don't, are you willing to care for them Including spay and neuter them) for the next 8-10 years? For every rabbit that is born either by mistake or through planning, a rabbit at an animal shelter will die, because the baby rabbit that you brought into the world will take a home away from a rabbit at the shelter. So before you breed your rabbit, go down to the shelter in your area to see all the other rabbits who desperately need homes.

Rabbits mate instinctively. They will mate with parents, siblings, their own children, etc. They don't understand the concept of incest.

You could very well end up with a dozen babies. The cost of housing them separately, feeding and neutering plus the vet bills would be a hefty sum. You would need to separate males from females at 3-4 months. Same s*x rabbits can often fight as they mature, esp. if unneutered. You may end up with 12 different cages. Rotating them out for floor time daily let alone the cleaning of all those cages and litterboxes and food dishes would take a chunk of time every day!!

Thousands of unwanted rabbits are killed yearly.

P.S. I would also find a new vet.
