I'm looking into breeding budgies and I've always been drawn to albinos, but since their ceres are always pink, How to you tell a boy from a girl without taking them to the vet for that blood test thing?

  1. well see i used to breed albinos but my 2 of my males died and one went blind and my female died

so im left with a yellow albino that is blind and white female that wont breed

albino budgies are very hard to breed

i have bred crosses which was a male yellow albino with other females but could never get my female to breed

to this day she wont even breed with my other males

    but to tell there s*x

a male will usually have a pinky cere and when its ready to breed it will turn brown

the females is always brown and crusty

but its a really dark brown

although it might change to light brown or pinky if it isnt ready to breed but it will still be crust like it is a normal female budgie

    best of luck breeding them

they are hard to get to breed

and remember to keep them out of direct sunlight because they go blind

thats how my one went blind although he is still alive and flys around my aviary

  2. In mutations such as inos (albino, lutino, creamino) dark-eyed clear, lacewing, fallow and recessive pieds, males keep their baby coloured ceres of translucent purpley pink.

Females have opaque ceres with pale white rings around their nostrils , but after they reach sexual maturity they will develop a brown / tan cere (sometimes crusty looking) when they are in breeding condition.
