I am getting a boar tommorrow to breed with one of my sows.

how do i introduce them?? just dump him in with her and make sure they dont fight?

how do you know if they have mated??

what is the first sign of her being pregnant??

DO NOT TELL ME NOT TO BREED THEM.or That it is wrong, i will not change my mind, i already have buyers for the pups, and i know how to take care of them

  1. Yes, there are too many crossbred, badly bred unwanted pigs around. Please think carefully before you breed (mainly re. the age and health of your sow) but if you have homes already for the babies or intend to keep them yourself I don't think anyone has the right to rant at you.

Allie - "Have you read about lethals? "  Funny question to ask when you haven't even asked what breed/colour her pigs are.

There is only ONE genotype that produces the white  "lethals" as you call them and that is where a baby pig is homozygous for the micropthalmia/white spotting gene. If you don't mate two Roans or Dals together you can't get a micropthalmic white so not sure why there is this vast amount of scaremongering.

  2. Well... you do seem like you know what you are doing. When you introduce the male but them in a neutral surrounded area (large box) If fighting accords separate them and try the second sow. If they get along let them remain in their for about 30 mins If they are mating let them be. If he fights with her then you can repeat this again later or the next day until mating has accorded.

  3. Im with Allie on this 1 u really dnt need 2 breed weathr 4 profit r not.

  4. Have you read about lethals? Have you read about the percentage of sows that die from pregnancy? Do you know the ages in which they can give birth before the pelvic bones become fused? You seem awfully young to be breeding. Where are you keeping the animals? Do the buyers know proper care and have C&C cages (baby proofed) ready for arrival? Do you know at which ages to separate the male babies so they do not get their mother pregnant?
