Breidis Prescott desperate for rematch with Paul McCloskey – Boxing news
The 28-year-old Colombian pugilist, Breidis ‘The Khanqueror’ Prescott is desperate for a rematch with the Dudey, Paul McCloskey, as he is not happy by the controversial loss he suffered on Saturday, September 10, 2011 at the Odyssey Arena in Belfast, Northern
Ireland.
Breidis, who took on McCloskey in his backyard for the WBA 12-round light welterweight elimination bout, fought pretty well. He knocked down the Irishman in the very first round before winning a wide majority of rounds. McCloskey was also off balanced in
the last round.
However, the ring-side judges still awarded McCloskey with verdicts of 114-113, 114-113 and 115-113 which made him a winner via unanimous decision. Therefore, Breidis believes he has been robbed.
Breidis, who now holds a record of winning 24 of his 27 professional fights, with 19 of wins coming by the way of a knockout, told the media he wants to avenge his defeat on neutral grounds.
Breidis was keen for a fight against the Bolton’s finest Amir Khan, as he is the only man so far to defeat Khan, but now Breidis says he does not want Amir Khan.
“I guess Kahn is happy now because now he can avoid me longer,” said Prescott. “I would love a McCloskey rematch on neutral ground, but after beating he took, I doubt he would fight me again.”
Breidis’ co-promoter, Leon Margules, in the meanwhile also shared his thoughts with the media. Margules also reckons Breidis did enough to win the fight.
“When they were about to read the scores, the only question was how much did Breidis win by,” said Prescott’s co-promoter, Leon Margules of Warriors Boxing. “He landed the harder, cleaner shots and hurt McCloskey several times. Unfortunately, this wasn't
as surprising as it should be. It's very tough to win on road, which is bad for boxing in the long run.”
