  1. That's a complex question.  I am myself living in a small town in Northern Germany as well - around 100 km away from Bremen.  Bremen is located in Northern Germany and life in Northern part of the country is much cheaper than in southern Germany.  But, it really depends where you live.

You might get a cheap & inexpensive apt. over there, as well as an expensive one.  Food, clothings, etc. are not so expensive in Germany, compared with most other EU nations.

But, again, it all depends where you live and what your preferences are.  A real specific answer to your question is nearly impossible, because I don't excactly know what you want and what you're looking for.

Go to the websites of German supermarkets and see their food prices - here are some for you:

    http://www.aldi.de (go to Aldi North)

    http://www.lidl.de

    http://www.kaufland.de

    http://www.marktkauf.de

    http://www.edeka.de

All prices are shown in Euro currency (€)...If you are in the UK, you have to convert to your currency.

If you have any more questions or what more infos, you can email me (go to my profile and leave me a message).

  2. I don't live there myself, but my sister does. You usually have to pay 300 - 400 Euro for a small appartement and should calculate about

250 -300 for food.If you take in consideration telephone, Dsl and so on, it sums up to roughly 600 - 800 per month.

Its a bit cheaper when you're a student at Universität Bremen, since

appartements in the dorm are cheaper and public transport tickets are included in your university fees.
