Brendan Hansen wins Men’s 100m breast-stroke gold: Day One – ConocoPhillips National Championships
Brendan Hansen dominated the gold medal of Men’s 100m breast-stroke meet on the first day of the 2011 ConocoPhillips National Championships on Tuesday, August 2, in Palo Alto, California, at Stanford University’s Avery Aquatic Centre.
Hansen of Longhorn Aquatic won the title of the event by submitting a winning a time of 1 minute and 00.08 seconds. His time was just 0.51 seconds ahead of his strongest competitor, Kevin Swander of SwimMAC Carolina, who posted a wonderful effort of 1 minute
and 00.59 seconds.
He was followed by Marcus Titus of Tucson Ford Deal, who remained 0.22 seconds behind Swander and occupied the podium for the bronze medal, as he touched the finishing wall with a timing of 1 minute and 00.82 seconds.
Brendan has the honour of representing USA’s swimming team at the 2004 and 2008 Olympic Games, respectively. He captured three medals at the 2004 Olympics, which included a silver medal in 100m breast-stroke, a bronze medal in 200m breast-stroke and a gold
medal in Medley relay. He also won the gold medal of the latter event at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
In the meantime, Eric Shanteau of Una Troj-CA surfaced as the fourth finest swimmer of the competition, as he was just 0.36 seconds away from the third position holder and reported in a time of 1 minute and 01.18 seconds. Shanteau defeated his closest competitor
and his team-member, Michael Alexandrov, who was just 0.04 seconds behind him and clocked a fifth best time of 1 minute and 01.22 seconds.
Alexandrov was trailed by John Criste of Trojan Swim Club, who obtained sixth fastest spot of the swim, with a timing of 1 minute and 01.36 seconds. Kevin Cordes of Fox Valley Swim and Eric Friedland of Longhorn Aquatic emerged as the seventh and eighth
fastest swimmers, as they posted a time of 1:01.60 and 1:01.74 minutes, respectively.
In addition, the crowd acknowledged the superb swims of all contestants, while the podium finishers collected awards and accolades after the conclusion of the session.
