Brendan Jones caught between two choices, family or the PGA Championship
Brendan Jones recorded the second Japan Golf Tour victory during the 2012 season at the Sun Chlorella Classic, held at the Otaru Country Club, and surged to the top on the money list.
Right after that, he found himself caught in a difficult situation of making a choice between his family and the PGA Championship.
The situation created after he moved from 112th position to 92nd in the Official World Golf Rankings, which granted him an automatic entry into this year’s final major golf championship.
Earlier, he was supposed to spend three weeks with his family, following his competition in Japan. However, he now has another opportunity of participating in the prestigious tournament.
According to him, he is in a perfect shape to contend strongly at The Ocean Course, Kiawah Island this year.
“I haven't been told I'm in [the PGA Championship] yet, but I believe I would be,” he said. “It's opened up a can of worms, I was looking forward to having three weeks off back home, and that's right in the middle of it now. It might sound arrogant that
if I get in I might not play, but I don't feel that way”.
He stated that he wants to spend some with his family and enjoy without thinking about the game for three weeks. In the meantime, he does not want to miss the opportunity of playing the major.
He is expected to make his decision of selection one option by the end of this week. However, it is anticipated that he may go for the PGA Championship, as it is a rare opportunity for him.
“I missed both of their birthdays the last two weeks, but having a win makes it a little bit better,'' he explained. ''If I'm playing majors I'm going to be away sometimes for birthdays and things like that, it's just part of what it is”.
Jones has now 12 Japan Golf Tour victories registered to his name and a top-two finish till the end of the current season will grant him entries in each of the World Golf Championship in 2013.
