Brendan Jones leads The Crowns Championship by two shots – Japan Golf Tour
Three rounds of The Crowns Championship sanctioned by Japan Golf Tour came to a conclusion on April 30 at the par-70, Nagoya Golf Club.
The third round produced some excellent results as the leader board was once again changed.
Brendan Jones of Australia emerged as the leader after the third round finished. He carded a moderate round of two-under par, 68 which was enough for him to become the leader. Jones played well during the third round and did not look
like he was under any kind of pressure. He managed to play in his own style and never looked back even after making a bogey.
Jones had a total of five birdies but had three drop shots during his round. His iron shots did not help him as he made a few long putts for his birdie. The Australian did not play great golf shots as he made three bogeys which came
on holes number 8, 14 and 16.
Brendan has a three day aggregate score of nine-under par, 201. He leads the 72-hole championship by a margin of just two stokes.
Now going in the final round as the leader, Jones certainly has a two stroke advantage over his nearest competitors. It will be a bit of pressure for the Australian as all eyes will be set on him. If he can hold on to his nerves, he
has a great chance of winning this championship.
I.J. Jang of Japan carded the best round of the championship. His score of eight-under par, 62 shows, that the youngster played some superb golf shots during his outing. He had three birdies and a bogey on his front-nine. Jang took charge of the back-nine
by making four consecutive birdies and made another birdie on the closing par-4, 18th.
He was more than happy with the way his putter favoured him throughout the day. Some of his approach shots to the green landed within a couple of feet from the cup.
Jang shares the second spot with Sung-Yoon Kim, as both these players are two behind the leader and have a 54-hole score of seven-under par, 203.
As for Kim, he played steadily during his third round. He managed to post a score of two-under par, 68. Kim made four birdies and two bogeys during the third day. He was a little disappointed as he missed quite a few birdie putts.
The young defending champion Ryo Ishikawa posted a round of three-under par, 67. He looked in great shape as he had two consecutive birdies on his opening holes. Ishikawa had a total of five birdies and two bogeys on his score card.
The teenager Ishikawa is tied for the 12th spot as he has a three round score of three-under par, 207. He is six shots behind the leader and his chances of defending his title this year have faded away.
Final round of the championship will commence on May 1, as it will certainly produce some fireworks.
