Liverpool boss, Brendan Rodgers went on to reveal that his decision to part ways with Swansea City was an ‘emotional’ one for him, after having spent a memorable two year spell at the Liberty Stadium. However, he admitted that the Liverpool offer
was too good to turn down.
The Northern Irishman was formally unveiled as the new Reds manager on the 1st of June, after the Merseyside club axed Kenny Dalglish from his management post. Keeping in view his impressive achievements with the Welsh club, which saw him steer
them back to the summit of English football and finish the league table at the eleventh spot last season, the Reds deemed him as the fittest replacement for the Kop legend.
Rodgers admitted that given all the respect and love that he had received from the Swans fans during his stay at the Liberty Stadium, his decision to make a switch to Anfield came with a lot of emotions. He also divulged that he had a very good rapport with
the Swansea chairman, Huw Jenkins and was grateful to the entire staff and the fans for making his stint a memorable one.
He told the reporters in an interview, “It was such an emotional, difficult decision in terms of leaving Swansea. I was in no rush to leave, I had a brilliant relationship with the chairman - Huw Jenkins. As a city, they were magnificent for me; they looked
after me and my family.”
However, he mentioned that the proposal from Liverpool was a once in a lifetime opportunity for him, and believed that his decision to take over the reins of Anfield was professionally a correct one.
“When you get that opportunity to go to a club like http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 and hopefully help it improve, it is very difficult to turn down. In my professional career and challenge, it was a great step for me.”
He went on to express his gratitude towards the Merseyside club for affording him a warm welcome to Anfield. He also revealed that he was desperately waiting for the next season to kick-off and if it were in his control, he would get the ball out the very
next day and start with his work.
