http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 manager Brendan Rodgers thinks that his former club Swansea City have the first right to sign Gylfi Sigurdsson, but revealed he will effectively pursue his move to Anfield, given the player is available in the transfer market.
The Icelandic International joined the Welsh club on 1st of January from the German side Hoffenheim for a six month loan spell. Since then, he has been a revelation for the Swans, netting 7 goals in just 19 appearances and also won the Premier
League Player of the Month award for March.
Following his successful spell at the Liberty Stadium, Swansea reached an agreement with Hoffenheim on 28th of May to sign him on a permanent contract for a club record 6.8 million pounds transfer fee. However Rodgers, who was the central figure
in setting up the deal, parted ways with the Swans to take over the management of Liverpool, leaving doubts over the unfinished move.
With reports and speculations suggesting that Sigurdsson is likely to unite with Rodgers at Anfield, the Northern Irishman indicated that he would only make advances on the player, given he fails to reach to an agreement with Swansea.
He told the Liverpool’s official website, “I've always said, I think he's a player Swansea have had an agreement with and they have to have every chance to try and sign him. That's only right.”
“If he comes into the market for whatever reason…then of course I would like to be in a position to put our case here at Liverpool to sign him.”
The 39-year old also made public his intentions of signing new players during the transfer window, and revealed that he had already prepared a list of potential targets.
He also mentioned that given the enormous stature and size of Liverpool, the media tends to link every player with the club and joked that if all the reports and rumours are to be believed, the Reds can have five to six teams in the coming season.
He added, “That's the way of the world these days. Every player wants to play for Liverpool… The problem is, everyone can't.”
