Brendan Rodgers defends Swansea City after their loss to Manchester City – English Premier League
Brendan Rodger’s team got thumped 4-0 at the Etihad Stadium against Manchester City on Monday night in their debut English Premier League match but the Swansea City manager remains positive about his team’s chances in English football’s
top division. Swansea held their own in an eventful first half as Manchester City created plenty of goal scoring opportunities. The Citizens struck the post with David Silva and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Gareth-Barry-c14423 near the half time break as Yaya Toure proved to be instrumental
in ushering his team forward once again.
City started with Edin Dzeko as their front man and the home team’s forward was denied a goal in the first half thanks to some brilliant goalkeeping by Swansea City’s goalkeeper Vorm. Vorm kept his team in the match till the half
time break as the match came to a half with the score line at nil all but Manchester City opened the flood gates in the second half as Sergio Aguero inspired them to a four goal win over the newly promoted Welsh club side.

of their own as well. They played a passing game which was good to watch but the in the end, City out did them in the final third of the field.
Brendan Rodgers said in his interview after the match that he was proud of the club that he was managing as it was a historic night for them to say how they are accustomed to playing their football. He went onto add that the result
didn’t do justice to their performance as Swansea kept pace with Manchester City for the first 60 minutes of the match as they showcased good confidence when they had the ball at their feet. He added that Swansea could’ve been a threat because of their positive
approach.
Swansea’s manager said, "Some of these players have been playing in League Two and came up through the leagues. To play with such quality was big for them. Our game is to construct from behind – I have big confidence in how we
play. You have just got to win games. Hopefully you will see over the course of the season that we have variety in our game. We understand that you have to have penetration as well."
Swansea play on the upcoming weekend i.e. 20th of August 2011 against Wigan Athletic at their own home stadium. It will be interesting to see how the newly promoted side will do against the Latics who are relegation
contenders this season and they also struggled against Norwich City in their opening Premier League encounter.
