Rodgers has admitted that Liverpool will need to move away from their conventional 4-4-2 formation system and perhaps adopt a 4-3-3 formation which the manager used during his time at Swansea City in the English Premier League...
The former Swansea City manager has iterated his desire to take Liverpool away from their obsession with a 4-4-2 formation towards a more flexible setup of 4-3-3 which will allow them to play better football. 4-4-2 has long been
the formation of choice in English football with various top clubs employing the flat back four formation to play attacking football.
In recent years, there has been a shift away from the four striker formation towards a more dynamic formation of 4-3-3 inspired by http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barcelona-c38604 and other continental teams. English football remains entrenched in its obsession with
4-4-2 due to its structure and the width it provides but in reality its shortcomings become apparent in European football against technically sound teams.
English teams have nonetheless done well over the past decade in the UEFA Champions League but Rodgers is adamant that he will change the way http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 play in their current formation. 4-3-3 allows the team to control a large part
of the midfield area by sing three central midfielders which makes it harder for the opposition to dictate the tempo of the match.
Rodgers said, "I want to bring more goals into the group. That can help the group. That is what this season is about. People talk about the goalscoring last year. They talk about playing two strikers or one striker, but it's about
your players.”
He added, "For a lot of last season the team played 4-4-2. People cry out about playing two strikers up front, yet everyone at the end of the season said we didn't score enough. With 4-3-3 you play with three strikers, depending
on the types they are.”
The former Swansea City man went onto assert that a much more offensive approach encapsulated in the 4-3-3 formation can lead the team to draws into wins and losses into draws due to the increase in the output of goals from the
team as a whole.
