Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers refused to look as far as the Reds matches against their rivals and the top flight teams in the coming season, insisting instead that he has currently set his focus on their first game only.
The Football Association is set to announce the schedule for the Premier League fixtures for the 2012/13 term on Monday.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809, who finished the league table at eighth position in the preceding season, have introduced sweeping changes in the entire club structure and personnel, in order to make amends for their shortcomings. With the Merseyside club appointing the Northern
Irishman with an aim of introducing a new playing philosophy at Anfield, much hype has already been created in the media over the possibility of the Reds re-discovering their lost glory under the tutelage of a talented and full-of-ideas Rodgers.
However, instead of making extravagant claims and looking far into the future, the 39-year old insisted that his focus was on his team’s first league game of the season.
He told the club’s official website, “The first game I look for is the first game, and I won't look much further than that, to be honest," said the boss.”
“I'm sure the supporters will look at the Manchester United games, the derby games, and they normally look at what's around Christmas time and the end of the season, but I concentrate on the next game.”
Even though the Reds will not feature in Champions League football, their Carling Cup triumph in February was enough to hand them a place in the less glamorous Europa League this season.
Rodgers admitted that getting off to a good start in the European competition is currently one of his prime targets, as the Reds open their Europa League campaign late in August.
He added, “Our concentration will be very much on the European game coming up in early August - a home and away leg there.”
He went on to say that the excitement was paramount amongst the fans to see the next term’s fixtures, but reiterated his stance that his emphasis was on the Reds first match.
