Brendan Ryan’s ninth inning RBI helps Seattle Mariners over Chicago White Sox 3-2 – MLB Update
Seattle Mariners’ short-stop Brendan Ryan had an impressive performance by hitting an RBI single as the Mariners defeated the Chicago White Sox 3-2 at Safeco Field in Seattle on May 6.
Both teams were unable to score any run in the first three innings. The pitchers did well for both sides. Juan Pierre singled in the fourth inning to give the White Sox a 1-0 lead. Pierre went 2-for-3 right through the game. The Mariners were scoreless until
the fifth inning. The Mariners’ out-fielder Milton Bradley and Justin Smoak both hit an RBI double and added two runs for their club to lead the game 2-1 in the sixth inning.
Ichiro Suzuki worked the fly-ball towards the left-field position but was unable to post a run. Chone Figgins also hit a shot for a double inside first base and stole third base when Bradley was struck-out in the outside corner. The Mariners’ Manager Eric
Wedge and Bradley both displayed an angry behaviour on the call of home plate umpire Mike Muchlinski.
During the seventh inning, Carlos Quentin struck a one-run homer to tie the game 2-all. It was considered as Quentin’s seventh homer in the current season. The scorecard did not move in the eighth inning because the batters from both sides were unable to
score at that time. Jack Cust and Jack Wilson both started the final inning in a dominant way and hit a one-out single. Then Ryan made a walk-off and Adam Kennedy posted a run by moving to third base.
Michael Saunders also hit a fly-ball but no score was added on that shot. Ryan got the winning run by driving the ball towards the second baseman Gordon Beckham who was unable to stop. In this way, the Mariners took the lead 3-2 in the ninth inning. Miguel
Olivo was struck out in the last inning.
The Mariners’ starter Felix Hernandez also played a crucial role in his club’s victory. He pitched nine innings and permitted just two runs on five hits including two earned runs and six strike-outs.
On the other side, Phil Humber was unsteady with the ball as he allowed two runs on three hits with just four strike-outs in seven innings pitched.
