Brendan Schaub: Ben Rothwell is the toughest heavyweight and I am preparing to nail him - UFC news
Brendan Schaub, the young surging UFC heavyweight brawler, recently shared his views about his April 21, 2012 opponent, Ben Rothwell and admitted that the veteran Ben is a tough fighter and undoubtedly lies at the first position in the list of top three
toughest heavyweight brawlers adding that he is preparing himself well to give Ben a bout of his life.
Brendon and Ben are scheduled to clash on UFC 145, a pay-per-view which will take place at Philips arena situated in Atlanta, Georgia. The duo will collide in the main fight card, headlined by the championship bout between Jon Jones and Rashad Evans.
In the non-title three-round bout, Ben will strive to make a winning comeback especially after losing the last bout to Aussie Mark Hunt. Ben, 30, has been in a total 39 bouts and came out victorious in 31. He has collected a whopping 18 of his wins by knockout,
11 by submission and three by decision.
Widely known as the ‘Big Ben’ or ‘North Star’, Ben is a versatile brawler who has impressive command over both, the straight forward knockout game and ground submission game, the reason why he is feared and evaded by most.
In addition, Rothwell’s huge experience makes him an even more lethal belligerent especially when his opponent is a young brawler who has not fought more than 10 bouts. Ben has brawled for various mixed martial art organisations and boasts wins over many
names.
Though he has never ever held any heavyweight gold round his waist yet he has fought many championship calibre men such as Mark Hunt, Gilbert Yvel, Cain Velasquez, Chris Guillen and others.
Brendon, on the other hand, has won eight bouts out of a total 10 and has collected most of his wins by knockout, seven to be specific. The 29-year-old Colorado rookie has not grabbed even a single win by submission, a fact evident that he lacks the requisite
ground game facet against Big Ben.
In a short but confident interview, Brandon altogether erased the buzz that he is intimidated and said, “These guys know when they fight me, it's going to be one h**l of a fight. I expect the best Ben Rothwell. I think if you have to list a top three toughest
guys in the heavyweight division, he’s right up there. Everyone’s tough in the UFC but he’s a different caliber of tough. But just being tough isn't going to get you the belt.”
Schaub added that the fans at Atlanta will forget the main event and will remember his impressive performance.
Brendon said, “I guarantee people walk away from this fight talking about my performance rather than the main event or anyone else on the card.”
UFC 145 will also witness the welterweight bout between Rory MacDonald and Che Mills.
