Brendan Steele confident to defend the Valero Texas Open title – Golf News
Brendan Steele is set to defend his title in the Valero Texas Open at the Oaks Course at TPC San Antonio, slated to start from Thursday, April 19, 2012.
In 2011, Steele entered the field of Texas Open as a Rookie on the PGA Tour and outshined his rivals after carding an eight-under par tournament score.
The same season witnessed him participating in 27 events and making the cut 16 times. Moreover, he recorded three top-10 finishes and eight top-25 finishes in total.
While playing his second year on the tour, it seems that he has lost control over his game. In the 10 events so far, he succeeded in making the cut only five times.
Moreover, he only managed to break the par three times in all his appearances this year, which speaks of his poor form throughout the first quarter of the season.
Yet, he believes that he is in a good position to successfully defend his title. According to him, he has learned from his mistakes in the past few months and is moving in the right direction.
"You have to work on expectations and really understand what you're trying to do," Steele said."Winning in my rookie year was something that I never even dreamed that I would be able to do so it's a little bit hard almost to keep yourself, not motivated,
but kind of a 'Where do we go from here?'-type thing”.
He added, “I don't think there's a lot wrong with my game. My approach has been a little bit off. I'm just trying to make that transition, start moving in the right direction”.
Steele is grouped with Kevin Na and Bud Cauley in the opening two rounds of the tournament.
Na is the same player who recorded 16 on the ninth hole last year to record the highest score on any of the par-four holes on the PGA Tour.
He is currently listed among the favourites to win the title this year because of his recent good form on the tour.
