Brendon McCullum calls Shane Warne a ‘genius’ – Cricket News Update
Brisbane Heat’s wicketkeeper batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shane-Keith-Warne-c89672 bowled in the Big Bash Twenty20 League match on Tuesday, December 20, 2011.
The wily leg-spinner ended up with figures of one for 22 and got the all important wicket of New Zealand’s McCullum, who threatened to take the game away with his power hitting.
Praising the effort from Warne, McCullum said, “He's still got it. He's the oracle isn't he? He's a genius. I was just trying to pay the respect by looking to play a fine lap shot to get off strike and attack the other guys.”
The Kiwi batsman had scored 36 runs with the help of three fours and one massive six before being cleaned up by the spin wizard.
Warne was fully aware that McCullum could hit him over the top of the boundary if he gives some flight to the ball. This is why the legendary bowlers tried the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Craig-Philipson-c1290, which was a touch quicker than the normal delivery.
The ball pitched just outside the leg-stump and the batsman was tempted to play a sweep shot. However, he completely missed it and was bowled comprehensively.
McCullum would have been disappointed after being unable to make most of the start to his innings, but said that he was satisfied with what happened in the end.
On being dismissed to a magical delivery from Warne, the Kiwi player said, “He's just too good, I got beaten to the punch by the world's greatest player, there's no harm in that.”
Warne might have made an impact by taking the wicket of the flamboyant batsman; it was the Stars’ opener Robert Quiney, who won the man of the match award for his terrific batting display.
The stylish left-handed opener scored 97 runs off 60 balls with the help of five fours and six thunderous sixes. The most impressive thing about his innings was that it was not a selfish one, as Quiney could have easily got his century by taking three singles.
Instead, the 29-year old opener opted to play the big shot, as his side needed some quick runs in the death overs. His effort guided the Stars to a victory by eight runs.
