Brendon Smith says Michael Katsidis will not rematch Kevin Mitchell – Boxing news
The trainer and manager of the top-ranked light welterweight contender Michael ‘The Great’ Katsidis, Brendon Smith has responded to Frank Warren who claims Katsidis will rematch his fighter Kevin Mitchell in the near future.
Kevin Mitchell has only lost to Katsidis as of yet, as otherwise he has won 32 of his 33 professional fights, with 24 of his wins coming by the way of a knockout. Therefore, he has been constantly linked with Katsidis.
The 26-year-old Dagenham Destroyer, Kevin Mitchell, who by many experts is regarded as one of the most exciting prospects in the British history, lost his battle against the Australian pugilist, Katsidis, within the first three rounds after he was hit with
two huge lefts back in May 2010. Since then Mitchell has been touted for a return against the former two-time World Boxing Organisation’s interim lightweight title-holder, Katsidis.
Therefore, Smith has finally responded to all the statements which have been made as of yet. Smith told the media it his Katsidis will not rematch Mitchell as he has already spoken to Frank Warren about it.
“I can say as Michael's manager that this is highly unlikely (that Mitchell will rematch with Katsidis) as we have already had an offer of $100,000 dollars from Frank Warren,” Smith told World Boxing News.
Meanwhile John Murray, who was beaten by Mitchell in July 2011, has also been linked with Katsidis and the Ringstar Promotions chief, Smith, reckons English fighters are linking themselves with his fighter just to gain publicity, as otherwise he thinks they
want no part of Katsidis.
While speaking on his inclusion, he told WBN, “As I have mentioned many times before, I don’t believe that Frank or Kevin want this fight and this was confirmed once the offer was made. However, calling Michael's name once more has given good publicity to
Kevin.”
“It is plain and simple and I am not being disrespectful, but the English boys don’t want any part of Michael except for calling his name to promote themselves,” Smith told WBN.
