Brennan Boesch, Miguel Cabrera shine as Tigers beat Yankees – Baseball update
Brennan Boesch's four hits and Miguel Cabrera’ two homers grabbed a 10-7 victory for the Detroit Tigers against the New York Yankees on a cloudy Sunday in Yankee Stadium. This was the Tigers’ first victory in a three game series against Yankees. In the last
two games, Tigers were beaten by the Yankees 10-6 and 6-3.
In Boesch's four times at bat, he scored four runs in four hits and earned four RBIs. With this he became the first Tiger’s player after Dmitri Young who had at least four hits and four RBIs in a game. Cabrera got one more chance at bat than Boesch, but
was less effective as far as runs and hits are concerned. However he gave the 40,574 fans a lot to cheer by hitting two towering homers to left field. The first one went 414 ft and the second 423 ft.
Mark Teixeira hit a homer to right field in the third inning and made himself the second Yankees' player after Dave Winfield who hit homers in the first three games of the season. Jorge Posada and Robinson Cano were other Yankees’ hitters who put their names
on the score board with three homers. It’s the first time in Yankees’ history that they hit nine homers in their first three games of the season.
The game proved to be nightmare for both teams’ starting pitchers who collectively went for 11 runs in nine innings including six home runs. Tigers’ starter Max Scherzer gave away six runs in five innings with six strikeouts while New York Yankees’ Phil
Hughes gave away five runs in four innings pitched.
Scoring Summary:
Cabrera gave the Tigers an early lead in the first inning with a two run homer to the right.
Yankees' Jorge Posada hit a two run game-tying shot to right field in the bottom of the second inning.
In the third inning, Austin Jackson scored on Boesch’s single to the center, making it 3-2 for the Tigers.

In the fifth inning, Boesch hit a two run shot which was cancelled by Yankees’ Posada two run hit in the bottom of the inning, keeping it 6-7 for the Yankees at the end of fifth inning.
In the top of the sixth innings, Jhonny Peralta scored on Ramon Santiago’s double while Boesch hit a sacrifice fly to left field to bring Austin Jackson around to home plate.
In the seventh inning, Cano completed his run on Nick Swisher’s double to deep right center to cut the lead to two but it did not count much as Boesch completed his fourth run and the Tigers’ 10th run in the ninth to seal the victory.
