Brennan Boesch shines as Detroit Tigers defeat Kansas City Royals 4-3 – MLB Update
Brennan Boesch touched a walk off hit to help the Detroit Tigers defeat Kansas City Royals 4-3 in the tenth inning of the three-game electrifying opener at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City on Friday, August 5.
The game was tied at three-all when entered in the top of the tenth in which Boesch landed for his fifth at-bat and touched a single to centre, allowing Andy Dirks to get a game winning run.
Tigers’ starter Rick Porcello might have received his nightmare loss if Boesch could have not touched this run. The scoreless Felipe when entered in the sixth, it proved a destructive inning for him, as the Royals’ Johnny Giavotella, Mike Moustakas and Alcides
Escobar each added an RBI single to tie the game at 3-all.
However, he was lucky to have Brennan on his back.
"Every time he goes out there now, we really feel we're going to win," Boesch said. "He's really been pitching well. He has been growing all season long, getting better as the year goes on. That is what we need from him. He is stepping up big.”
Porcello also allowed seven hits in just over six innings. Phil Coke and David Pauley also played vital role in saving Porcello from his defeat, as they both did not allowed any run over their short spells.
Daniel Schlereth tossed two gritty innings to get his first win of the season. Jose Valverde followed him with his destructing pitching to get his 31st save and 60th win for his club.
Brennan also led off the game in the top of the first inning when he tripled to deep-right, allowing Austin Jackson to score the opening run. Michael Ortiz followed him with his sacrifice hit to right field, scoring Brennan. Then after delay of three innings,
Alex Avila launched a 450-long huge one-run homer to take the lead to 3-0 in the top of the fifth inning.
"I just didn't want to do too much," Boesch said. "I just wanted to make sure I was under control and just try to play pepper back up the middle. I wanted to do that."
Royals’ starter Felipe Paulino scattered three runs on six hits, walked two batters and struck-out seven batters over six innings but could not get his win.
