Bayern Munich defender http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Breno-c8038 has been sentenced to three years and nine months in prison after being found guilty of starting a fire in his own house.

The http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Brazil-c2858 under-23 international joined Bayern from Sao Paulo for a fee reported to be around 12 million Euros. The 22-year old was considered to be one of best young defenders to come from Brazil. After beating the likes of Fiorentina,
Real Madrid, AC Milan and Juventus, Bayern signed their man on a four-and-a-half year deal.
Breno came to Europe with a lot of promise and potential but he failed to nail down a regular place in the starting line-up. He only managed to make 21 appearances for the Bavarian club and was loaned out to Nuremberg in 2010.
While on loan the Brazilian suffered a cruciate ligament injury which kept him out of action for the remainder of the 2009/2010 season.
After returning to his parent club the injury forced him to miss most of Bayern’s 2010/2011 season as well. On 24th September 2011 the player was arrested on suspicion of serious http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arson-c6674 after a fire in his villa. The
damage to his luxury villa was reported to be around 1.5 Million Euros.
The player was known to be suffering from severe depression due to his injury problems, which were understood to be career threatening. On 6th October 2011, the former Sao http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Paulo-c29431 centre-back was released on bail.  
On 4th July 2012 Breno was sentenced to three years and nine months in prison, considering the players psychiatric problems the jail-term was reduced from ten years. The player himself deeply regretted his role in the
incident and apologised to his children who had been present at the house.
"I apologise for that night. I also apologise to my children, to whom I have not been a good role model. I am a person who believes in God, and I thank him that he has protected my family,” he is quoted as saying in an interview.
Breno’s former club Bayern gave full support to their player, after learning of his prison sentence. The club had hoped he would be able to continue football career.
“Breno was sentenced to prison. We had hoped that he would be able to continue his career as a footballer and have a life with his family. Bayern Munich will continue to support him," the club statement read.
The Brazilian’s niggling injury problems stunted his development as a footballer, and he is unlikely to get back to his best for a few years. Considering his age, the 22-year old might be able to regain his fitness and kick start
his career again.
