Brent Hayden and Therese Alshammar dominate swimming events: 2011 FINA World Cup, Moscow
Canada’s Brent Hayden and Sweden’s Therese Alshammar took a huge ovation from Moscow’s crowd due to their versatile swimming efforts in the third round of the seven stop 2011 FINA World Cup series in Russia, on Wednesday, October 19. The session of the meet
conducted the Men’s and Women’s 50m freestyle final heats.
Double Commonwealth medallist, Brent Hayden inspired the arena against his strongest rivals, Eamon Sullivan of Australia and Nikita Lobintsev of Russia by hitting the finishing wall with a nerve wrecking time of 21.65 seconds to win the Men’s 50m freestyle
title. Meanwhile, Sullivan finished with silver title on the podium in a time of 21.76 seconds and Lobintsev settled for bronze medal in a time of 21.80 seconds.
Matthew Abood of Australia picked fourth spot in a time of 21.81 seconds, while Sergei Fesikov of Russia claimed fifth position with a mark of 21.88 seconds. In addition, Russia’s athlete, Evgeny Lagunov earned sixth place honours by posting a time of 21.99
seconds and China’s Yang s**+ settled for seventh place in a time of 22.02 seconds. Finally, Andrey Arbuzov of Russia earned eighth position with a spot of 22.22 seconds.
On the other hand, Therese Alshammar of Sweden thrashed out both China’s Ying Lu and Russia’s Anastasia Lyazeva in a crucial encounter by hitting the finishing wall with a record breaking time of 25.06 seconds to clinch the Women’s 50m freestyle title. Meanwhile,
Lu earned silver medal in a time of 25.60 seconds and Lyazeva picked bronze title in a time of 26.66 seconds.
Irina Bespalova of Russia gave her best effort in the respective meet and earned fourth position with a captivating time of 26.69 seconds. Additionally, Daria Tcvetkova of Russia earned fifth place honours by posting a time of 26.84 seconds and Vasilisa
Vladykina of Russia settled for sixth place in a time of 26.94 seconds.
Moreover, Daniela Schreiber of German claimed seventh spot with a mark of 27.10 seconds and Maria Ugolkova of Russia settled for eighth place with a time of 27.11 seconds. Finally, the best racers of the meets were awarded accolades and cash prizes after
the session’s completion.
