Brent Hayden claims Men’s 50m freestyle title - Canadian Olympic & Paralympic Trials
Brent Hayden of VAND claimed gold medal of the Men’s 50m freestyle on final day of the Canadian Olympic and Paralympic Trials in Montreal on Sunday, April 1.
Hayden, who made his way into the playoff as top contender for first position, lived up to the expectations of his supporters by proving his mettle for gold medal.
His nerve-wrecking performance stayed considerably ahead of his strongest challenger, Richard Hortness of LAC, who finished second behind him.
Hayden went full throttle in the one-lap event and stepped on the victory stand for gold medal by tapping the wall with the timing of 22.16 seconds. He was followed by Hortness, who stayed 0.31 seconds behind him and trailed him on the medal rostrum for
silver medal with the timing of 22.47 seconds.
The silver medallist was chased by Luke Peddie of OSC, who stayed 0.13 seconds slower from him and completed his swim in a time of 22.60 seconds for bronze medal of the event. Peddie was followed by Kyle Troskot of LASC, who stayed 0.24 seconds slower from
him and settled on the finishing wall as fourth best finisher by producing a time of 22.84 seconds.
The fifth finest spot of the race was obtained by Octavian Petre of CAMO, who stayed 0.17 seconds away from him and hit the wall with the timing of 23.01 seconds.
He was chased by Duncan Partridge of OAK, who stayed 0.05 seconds slower form upsetting his foregoing swimmer and clocked a time of 23.06 seconds for sixth position.
Partridge was chased by Kelly Aspinall of VAND, who remained only an inch away from his former finisher and clocked an effort of 23.08 seconds for seventh position.
The last spot of the race was secured by Charlie Tapp of LOSC, who remained 0.16 seconds behind and clocked an effort of 23.24 seconds to earn eighth position of the event.
In addition, the crowd appreciated forceful efforts of all participants in the 50m discipline whereas the podium finishers were called upon the medal rostrum for their gruelling efforts at the prize distribution ceremony of the championship.
