Brent Hayden wins Men’s 100m freestyle gold - Canadian Olympic & Paralympic Trials
Brent Hayden of VAND won gold medal of the Men’s 100m freestyle on day four of the Canadian Olympic and Paralympic Trials in Montreal on Friday, March 30.
Hayden spoiled the party of his competitors by clinching gold medal of the double lap freestyle event. With his impeccable swim, he remained almost one body length ahead of his strongest competitor and earned his place in the Canadian team to the 2012 London
Olympic Games.
He clocked a time of 48.53 seconds to obtain gold medal of the event. His scintillating effort remained 0.68 seconds ahead of Richard Hortness of LAC, who seized silver medal of the 100m event by touching the wall in a time of 49.21 seconds.
Hortness was followed by Colin Russell of BWSC, who found it impossible to secure an individual berth to London but booked his place in the Canadian 4*100m freestyle relay team, as he finished his swim with the timing of 49.69 seconds and ended third.
Russell was also followed by Thomas Gossland of VAND, who also ensured his place in the Canadian relay team by finishing fourth in the discipline with the timing of 49.98 seconds.
Gossland was chased by Luke Peddie of OSC, who stayed just 0.07 seconds slower from his former finisher and hit the wall with an effort of 50.05 seconds to secure fifth best place.
Peddie was trailed by Blake Worsley of IS, who stayed 0.18 seconds slower from his foregoing finisher and posted a time of 50.23 seconds for sixth position.
In the meantime, the crowd witnessed gruelling efforts of Dominique Massie-Martel of PCSC, who remained 0.10 seconds slower from Worsley and hit the finishing wall with the timing of 50.33 seconds for seventh position.
Massie-Martel was chased by Kyle Troskot of LASC, who finished eighth in the discipline by clocking a time of 50.66 seconds.
The session came to an end after the completion of all planned events whereas the championship will end on April 1 after the completion of Canadian team to the 2012 London Olympic Games. Furthermore, winners received accolades for their marvellous efforts
at medal ceremony of the championship.
