Brent Morel’s homer helps Chicago White Sox defeat Texas Rangers 4-3 – MLB Update
The Chicago White Sox staged a breathtaking come-back in the game against Texas Rangers winning 4-3 at U.S. Cellular Field, Chicago on Tuesday, May 17.
It was Brent Morel who turned the tide against Texas Rangers just when the team thought they had secured a comfortable lead. Morel’s three-run homer came in the fifth inning and the White Sox marched confidently towards a desperately needed victory.
After Morel perfectly executed his assigned task, Gordon Beckham struck the winning hit that was accompanied by a lead-off walk in the eighth inning. Even though Colby Lewis did not initiate a promising game for the White Sox by coming 4-0, Chicago’s offence
sparked at the right time to secure a victory.
The most disappointed of all was Michael Young. The talented player representing Texas, Young extended his hitting streak to 17 games, a career-best. “Tonight we just didn't get the big knock," Young said. "It's all right; we've been doing it the last week
or so. We'll be all right."
Texas was coming in this game with a wonderful 4-0 victory that they scored against the White Sox in the last game. Their offence was solid and the defence sparked magnificently to bring in a good win against Chicago. Colby Lewis had pitched seven shut-out
innings in the last game paving the way for a victory for the Rangers.
The Rangers had certain things missing on Monday. Among the most worrying issue that factored into losing the game were Josh Hamilton and Nelson Cruz whose absence as sluggers just added to the Rangers’ woes.
Matt Harrison, the starting pitcher of Texas, was unlucky as well. Having pitched seven effective innings, he could not, however stop Morel from hitting the game’s most fascinating score. "It's definitely frustrating," Harrison said. "I felt good the whole
game. The fact of the matter is I walked too many people tonight. That was the whole key to the game."
Texas had made an early lead on Monday as the game began. Ian Kinsler grounded a double play to score the first run for the Rangers in the very first inning. John Danks gave up another run in the second inning when Chavez scored the second run for the team,
giving the Rangers a 2-0 lead.
Yorvit Torrealba tripled the lead for Texas in the fourth inning with his sacrifice fly to left. Until then, so it seemed, the White Sox’s offence was sleeping. However, Morel was menacingly poised to offer a surprise.
Chicago’s fifth inning ushered in a promising come-back of the team with Morel’s three-run homer. He took Harrison to task and homered to left to level the score just when the Rangers seemed to have had a complete grip on the game.
Beckham scored on the hit of Alexei Ramirez in the eighth inning and Sergio Santos pitched a shut-out ninth inning to pave the way for a successful 4-3 victory for the White Sox against Texas.
