Brent Murray seizes Men’s 50m freestyle gold – USA Swimming Sectionals, Greensboro
Brent Murray of SA-GA seized gold medal of the Men’s 50m freestyle on first day of the 2012 USA Swimming Sectionals in Greensboro on Thursday, July 12.
The 19-year-old Murray demonstrated his stupendous efforts in the shortest freestyle discipline and spoiled the party of his supporters as he reached the top of victory stand for gold medal.
With his astonishing efforts in the 50m discipline, he stayed considerably ahead of his challengers throughout the discipline and tapped the wall with the timing of 23.15 seconds.
The gold medallist was chased by Jonathan Boffa of Silver Bullet EL, who stayed 0.31 seconds apart and made his way to the finishing blockade with the timing of 23.46 seconds for silver medal.
The second position holder was chased by his teammate, Joseph Martin, who stayed 0.09 seconds apart and tapped the wall for bronze medal by submitting a time of 23.55 seconds.
Following that, the crowd witnessed gruelling efforts of Sam Lewis of DYNA-GA, who stayed half a body length away from upsetting his former finisher. The 18-year-old Lewis stayed 0.58 seconds slower from his foregoing finisher and tapped the wall with the
timing of 24.13 seconds for fourth position.
Fifth finest spot of the race was secured by Roger Miesfeld of Silver Bullet EL, who stayed 0.23 seconds apart and settled on the finishing blockade with the timing of 24.36 seconds.
Similarly, Miesfeld was chased by Jeffrey Snider of Bluegrass Marlin, who suffered a deficit of only 0.16 seconds and secured sixth finest spot of the discipline by producing a time of 24.52 seconds.
Snider remained in a lead of 0.13 seconds over Aaron Durrence of DYNA-GA, who managed to outperform his following swimmer for the seventh position by reporting a time of 24.65 seconds.
Eighth position of the 50m discipline was gained by Ryan Funk of Greater Pensacola, who stayed 0.09 seconds away from his foregoing finisher and tapped the wall with an effort of 24.74 seconds.
In addition, Murray was delighted with his feat on opening day of the tournament and received huge appreciation at the medal distribution ceremony of the tournament.
