Bresnan replaces Shahzad for first Test against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755
Tim Bresnan has been added to England’s Test squad to face Pakistan following an ankle injury to paceman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ajmal-Shahzad-c42489.
Bresnan is now one step closer to gaining the chance to again prove himself at a Test level ahead of the 2010/11 Ashes, but he has some tough competition for a place in the pace attack in Stuart Broad, James Anderson and youngster Steven Finn.
Shahzad has been ruled out of the first Test at Trent Bridge, which begins tomorrow, as a result of the injury, but according to ECB chief medical officer Nick Peirce the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Yorkshire-c867 bowler “hasn't been ruled unavailable” for the second Test of the series, which begins at Edgbaston on August 6th.
"He will continue to be assessed this week before a decision on his fitness is made," Peirce said.
The 25-year-old twisted his ankle while playing county cricket more than a week ago, but went on to represent Yorkshire in a Clydesdale Bank 40 match for his county last Monday.
"Unfortunately Ajmal felt some discomfort following England practice at the NCPC [National Cricket Performance Centre] on Tuesday and as a precautionary measure it is felt he is best to undergo rehabilitation on the ankle for the remainder of this week,” Peirce said.
Shahzad had made his Test debut for England against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747 at Manchester this June, where he claimed figures of 3-45 in the first innings and 1-18 in the second, but the injury has ensured he’ll now have to wait a little longer before he plays his second match in whites.
