Brett Favre’s most memorable moments
Every legend has their share of moments that just defy logic or leave fans in complete disbelief. I am talking about the kind of plays or performances that make you wonder: “did he just do that? Brett Favre has definitely had his share of memorable moments.
While the saga of Favre's retirement is already far too long and drawn, his departure from the game (possibly for real, this time) makes it worthwhile to look back at some of his, and the sport's defining moments.
Brett Favre played his tail off after his father passed away
It happened on 22 December, 2003 in Oakland. A day after his father passed away, Green Bay quarterback Brett Favre honoured the memory of his old man and played a game for the ages. On that night filled with emotions, Favre passed for 399 yards and four touchdowns as the Packers routed the Raiders 41-7. Even the Raiders’ fans in the Black Hole had to acknowledge what Favre was accomplishing and they showed their respect by cheering.
From the very first snap until the very last one, it was apparent that Favre wasn’t going to be denied on that night. This was more than a game for Favre, it was a tribute for his dad. As the final whistle blew, Favre broke down and cried and cemented his legendary status in the hearts of many fans across the league.
Favre Wins Superbowl XXXI
In Super Bowl 31, the Green Bay Packers battled Drew Bledsoe and the New England Patriots and came out on top. The Packers scored on the second play of their first possession and they carried that momentum for the duration of that game. It was a total team effort that brought the championship back to Wisconsin. Favre solidified his place amongst the very best and earned a Super Bowl ring in 1997.
Favre brings magic to the Vikings
It's typical Favre form:, his team is trailing late in the game with seconds left on the clock. Favre extends the play, throws a little pump fake to keep defences at bay, and tosses it up to only have his receiver make a circus like catch to steal the game. It happened so many times at Lambeau field, but it also happened on at least one occasion when Favre sported the purple of the Minnesota Vikings, on 27 September 2009 against the San Francisco 49ers.
Favre won over the fans and his teammates in one instant. Down by four points and time winding down, Favre showed he still had that magic and connected with Greg Lewis to beat the 49ers at the beginning of the season with two seconds left on the clock, earning Favre an ESPY award for Best Play, and showing to fans around the country that even if he wasn't wearing a Packers uniform, his magic hadn't quite left him.
