Brett D'Oliveira likely to make his Flt20 debut vs. Warwickshire on Friday – Cricket News Update
Young Worcester all-rounder, Brett D’Oliveira, is likely to make his Friends Life T20 debut when his County side Worcestershire Royals play arch-rivals Warwickshire Bears in their opening game of this season’s Flt20 tournament, at Edgbaston on Friday, June
15, 2012.
The 20-year-old leg-spinning all-rounder has only one List A appearance in his account but http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Steven-John-Rhodes-c91315, is not reading too much into Brett’s lack of experience and is confident the shortest format of game would suit
his style.
“Sometimes younger legs help with the fielding and Brett is a very good example. He’s a good fielder and he can bowl and bat so that suits the all-rounder for Twenty20. He will play,” said the County chief ahead of his team’s tournament opener against fierce
rivals, Warwickshire.
D’Oliveira's lone List A appearance had come against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Yorkshire-c867 in a Clydesdale Bank 40 clash, at Headingley last August, which the Royals lost comprehensively by six wickets. In the ongoing 2012 County season, the young all-rounder has been playing for the
second XI so far, and is yet to make an appearance with the Royals.
Worcestershire are also without their pace bowling import, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758. In the absence of overseas pacer, Rhodes has picked pacer Nick Harrison and all-rounder Neil Pinner from the second XI, for the derby
against Bears at Edgbaston tonight.
Worcestershire share fierce rivalry with Warwickshire and Rhodes, also a former Royals’ skipper, knows how important it is for the players to win.
“I played in Worcestershire-Warwickshire derbies and we seem to enjoy trying to get a victory against the Bears more than anything,” said the Worcester chief.
“...to play against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Warwickshire-c862 and beat them is an achievement. It will be our goal but it’s the same for them,” he added further.
Worcestershire's 47-year-old former wicketkeeper batsman also hoped rain gods do not play spoilsport tonight.
“Let’s hope the weather doesn’t intervene,” said Rhodes. “It’s going to be a packed crowd and with those sort of numbers there will be a lot of disappointed people,” he added further.
