Brett Favre Shows off Surgically Repaired Ankle
Brett Favre was at Oak Grove High School tossing a football around with youngsters. He peeked near the side of the school and saw a horde of reporters waiting by his truck to ask him questions regarding his NFL future.
The 40 year-old quarterback strolled back inside while someone else got into Favre’s truck and drove it to the front of the school where Favre made his getaway from the media.
Regardless of him ducking questions from the media, Favre appeared to be moving just fine on his surgically repaired ankle.
He has yet to tell the Minnesota Vikings whether he’ll return for a 20th NFL season. All signs point to him coming back though, as he had the necessary arthroscopic surgery on his left ankle, which opened the door for him to return to the NFL.
"He ain't working out for no reason," Vikings quarterback Tarvaris Jackson said recently. "I welcome him back. There's nothing I can do about it so I'm going to welcome him back and hopefully get to the Super Bowl."
The Vikings have shown their patience with Favre as they would welcome him to join the team late into training camp, like last season.
The extra rest last season did wonders for Favre as he finished his season with career bests in completion percentage (68.4), quarterback rating (107.2) and fewest interceptions (7), while throwing for 33 touchdowns (TDs) and 4,202 yards to lead the Vikings to an NFC North title.
The Vikings went all the way to the NFC Championship game in which they lost a heartbreaker. Many felt they outplayed the New Orleans Saints, but costly turnovers doomed Minnesota in the end, including a Favre interception late in the 4th quarter when it appeared the Vikings were on their way to a game-winning field goal.
The Saints laid a l*****g on Favre in that game and Favre said he would soon make his decision as to whether or not he would fulfill the second year of his contract with the Vikings. Of course, the months have passed and many around the NFL are taking it as a sign that the old man’s coming back… again.
"He will be there for sure," Arizona Cardinals receiver Larry Fitzgerald Jr. said last week at his camp in Minneapolis. "Who would turn down $13 million? Would you?"
Favre, of course, will make $13 million if he decides to return.
However, Hall of Famer Michael Irvin feels that Favre’s decision will not be about money.
"Favre is not leaving this young talent," Irvin said. "We focus too much on Brett's age instead of the team's youth when you're talking about Brett. Brett does what he does with that youthful young talented team around him. You know he's not leaving that, so he might as well just say, 'I'm coming back. It's time to let it go and come on back.'"
Favre never seems to give a straight answer regarding his future. He has already retired and then came out of retirement twice. Also, many expect him to stick around a little longer. He has waffled his way through offseason workouts, but as evidence of last season shows, if he returns, that may benefit Favre and the Vikings.
"You can't blame him," Irvin stated of Favre’s hesitancy to retire for good. "I tell people all the time. Don't be stupid. Don't allow your ego to make you walk away from the greatest thing you will ever experience. The unity of walking onto a football field with 52 other guys, you have one purpose, one goal and one heartbeat. Wow, what a feeling. You make them drag you off the field. You will never have this again in your life."
One cannot imagine how hard it is to say goodbye to the game you love, especially if you can still perform at a high level. Favre proved last season that he is still a warrior. Brett Favre fans can confidently anticipate a 20th season for the QB because there is no way he's going out without a win.
