Brett Favre concerned about upcoming games, not meeting with the league
Minnesota Vikings quarterback Brett Favre has been quick to deflect any questions about his upcoming meeting with the league about the alleged inappropriate messages he sent to a gameday hostess while he was playing with Jets in 2008. Instead, Favre's main
concern seems to be the Vikings' upcoming game in Green Bay.
"I don't expect anything. ... I'm concerned about the next game," Favre said when asked about the upcoming meeting. "I'll let that take its course."
Favre has been accused of pursuing Jenn Sterger with text messages, voicemails, and lewd photos, and will meet with a member of the league's security team this week. The allegations with which Favre is accused would violate the league's personal conduct
policy, earning him a four-game suspension. If Favre is suspended, it would put an end to his record for consecutive NFL starts, which is currently at 290.
The Vikings got themselves back in contention with a huge win over the Cowboys last Sunday, 17 October, and now get set to take on the Green Bay Packers, where Favre spent 16 seasons.
"I'm a little bit reluctant to say I'm excited to go back to Green Bay," Favre said. "It's a challenge that hopefully we'll live up to, and I'll let that other stuff take care of itself."
The 41-year old quarterback has had a difficult start to the season. Aside from the allegations made against him, Favre has also been playing hurt with inflammation in his elbow, for which he received a cortisone shot last Wednesday.
According to Favre's team-mates, all the early season distractions do not seem to have affected his focus.
"I see a guy who is out there and just focused," running back Adrian Peterson said. "He's fighting through adversity, on and off the field. He's a great leader out there and he is leading the team. He's making plays and he is doing his job well."
The Vikings are 2-3 on the season and currently third in the NFC North Division. Favre has thrown for 979 yards and six touchdowns.
