Brett Favre files for retirement, again
For those who don’t believe that Brett Favre is done yet, he has at least submitted the official documents for retiring from the National Football League (NFL).
NFL spokesman Greg Aiello says that Favre is on his way to leaving the professional football scene for good with the filing of his retirement papers.
This is just a part of the procedure for retirement. Filing for retirement means players become eligible for the Hall of Fame and to receive their pension. It’s also a good thing to note that Favre has done this before, but decided to come back. Players
who have retired are allowed to request reinstatement whenever they like.
However this news comes just when people doubt that Favre’s 20-year ride with the NFL has not come to an end yet. However, he made it perfectly clear that he would not come back after a disappointing season with the Minnesota Vikings.
Favre played in only 13 games this season and threw a very low number of touchdowns with only 11. He threw 19 interceptions with a season quarterback rating of 69.9; the lowest of his career.
He also took quite a beating physically as well. He was knocked unconscious in three different games and also dealt with calf, rib, back, neck, chin, foot, and elbow injuries. Aside from these, Favre also strained the sternoclavicular joint in his throwing
shoulder, causing him to end his streak of 297 consecutive regular season starts - 321 if you include off-season and playoffs. He also suffered a concussion on 20 December against the Chicago Bears, which ended up being the last game of his season, and now
his career.
"I know it's time, and that's OK. It is," Favre said after the Vikings 40-14 loss to the Bears. "Again, I hold no regrets, and I can't think of too many players offhand that can walk away and say that. Individually and from a team standpoint, it was way
more than I ever dreamed of."
Even if Favre does want to make another comeback, Vikes Head Coach Leslie Frazier says that he wants no part in his return. Fraizer said at his introductory news conference, "I cannot think of any circumstance of where I would pick up the phone and say,
'Brett, do you want to come back next season?'. I can't think of any circumstance where that would occur."
