Brett Favre misses practice but hopes to play against New England Patriots
Minnesota Vikings quarterback, Brett Favre, who is currently suffering from two fractures in his left ankle, has not practiced with the team this week, but has still not been ruled out of the team's upcoming game against the New England Patriots.
According to head coach Brad Childress, Favre will not need another surgery to repair the ankle which had been surgically repaired in the off-season. Favre has been seen around the practice field recently wearing a protective boot.
"Obviously, he's going to do everything in his power, yesterday, today, tomorrow, to see what he can do, but right now, I'm not overly optimistic," said Childress to the
The Star Tribune.
"Although, if there's anybody that seems like they can make it to the dance, it would be him."
Favre recently went for a consultation with Dr. James Andrews, who performed the surgery on Favre in the off-season. The doctor told the 41-year-old that he was not putting the ankle at further risk by playing on it.
"The thing is Sunday, I'm still going to have a broken bone in my foot. We know that, whether I play or not, next week it will be sore."
At stake is Favre's consecutive games played record, which currently stands at 291. Favre has always had a knack for making speedy recoveries, but at 41 years old, the bones don't heal like they used to and Favre isn't interested in playing in an understated
role just to keep the streak alive.
"I've always had a knack for healing quicker than most people. Mentally, I know – because I'm going back in history – I've been able to play with certain kinds of injuries that most people wouldn't have attempted. That gives me hope."
"I don't want to go out there for one play, I don't wanna go out there for three plays. If I'm going to play, I want to be out there the whole game.
"Whether it ends this week, whether it ends at the end of the year, it ends. I'll always be proud of it."
