Brett Favre returns to Lambeau when the Minnesota Vikings take on the Green Bay Packers
Minnesota Vikings quarterback Brett Favre will return to Lambeau field for the second time to take on his former team, the Green Bay Packers, as the Vikings' quarterback looks to put recent off-field distractions, and a sore elbow, behind him to lead his
team to victory.
Brett Favre has a knack for coming up a with a big performance in the big games. When he returned to Lambeau field last season to take on the Green Bay Packers for the first time, after they let him go in order to make way for Aaron Rodgers, Favre threw
four touchdown passes to lead the Vikings to a 38-26 win. In fact, the Vikings won both meetings between these two teams last season.
The Vikings have had a rough start to the season are hoping that last weekend's 24-21 win against the Dallas Cowboys will be enough to spark a turnaround.
In addition, the Green Bay Packers have been riddled with injuries. Since starting the year with two straight wins, the Pack is standing at 1-3, with every game being decided by a field goal or less. They lost last weekend 23-20 in a heartbreaking overtime
loss to the Miami Dolphins.
How they match up
In the two head-to-head meetings between Favre and Rodgers, Favre has come out on top both times. But Rodgers has not exactly been out-dueled, putting up better passing numbers than Favre both times. Each has been battling injuries lately, Favre with a sore
elbow and Rodgers from a concussion, but Rodgers has, by far, been the more consistent quarterback this season.
Adrian Peterson is a constant threat along the ground for the Vikings and is averaging more rushing yards per game than any other player. Green Bay's top rusher, Brandon Jackson, has only 305 yards so far this season, 248 yards less than Peterson, despite
Jackson's having played one extra game.
Rodgers also has three reliable targets through the air in Jermichael Finley, Greg Jennings, and Donald Driver, all of whom have over 20 catches for more than 300 yards.
The Vikings passing offence recently received a boost when it picked up Randy Moss, who has nine catches for 136 yards and one touchdown since coming over from New England.
On defence, the Vikings will also have the edge, as they are currently ranked fifth in the NFL and are led by the likes of Jared Allen, Chad Greenway and Antoine Winfield.
What to expect
A lot of people just don't seem to be able to see that time is beginning to catch up with Brett Favre. If his injured elbow wasn't enough of a setback, his image has also been tarnished after the sexting scandal that has gone on in the recent weeks, throwing
way too much onto his plate for him to handle. Rumours have swirled that Favre's consecutive game streak might be even be in jeopardy.
Even if Favre does play, the Vikings may not come out on top, as they are only in contention due to the fact that they have managed wins against two teams whose combined record was 2-9.
Prediction: Green Bay win by a wider margin than three points, 35-13.
