Brett Favre returns to New York to take on the Jets on Monday night football
It's not quite like returning to Lambeau Field to take on the Green Bay Packers, but Minnesota Vikings quarterback Brett Favre will be returning to New York for the first time after spending one year with the New York Jets two seasons ago when the Vikings
take on the Jets on Monday night.
How they match up
After a thoroughly disappointing the opening game of the season against the Baltimore Ravens, the New York Jets have played near perfect football. They won all three games against divisional opponents, and despite a string of injuries to their defence have
become solid on both sides of the ball.
Mark Sanchez has begun to show that he is a true NFL starter and has dramatically improved his decision making, and has yet to throw an interception this season. Although Sanchez's completion percentage is low compared with other quarterbacks he has thrown
eight touchdowns and is rated fourth overall in the NFL at the moment just behind some elite company such as Peyton Manning, Tom Brady, and Michael Vick.
Dustin Keller has emerged as Sanchez's favorite target and has caught five touchdown passes so far this season, good enough to tie him for second overall in the NFL with three other players.
The Jets finally got their running game going last week against the Bills. LaDainian Tomlinson was looking as good as he did four years ago when he set a league record for rushing touchdowns in a single season with 28. Shonn Greene also had over a hundred
yards in last week's win and the Jets now boast the league's second best running game.
The Minnesota Vikings are coming off their bye week and will hope to turn things around as they struggled in their opening three games.
No one could point the finger at Adrian Peterson for not giving it his all as he is tied for third in the NFL in rushing yards with 392 despite the fact that he is the only one in the top five to have played in only three games.
The Vikings' newest offensive acquisition, Randy Moss, has been accused of not giving 100 percent effort all the time by none other than Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis. If Revis is healthy, he will likely matchup against Moss in what could be grudge match.
Vikings quarterback Brett Favre has struggled this season and is near the bottom of the pile with a 60.4 quarterback rating. He has also thrown 6 interceptions and only two touchdowns. Favre will be making a not-so-celebrated return to New York where he
came out of retirement to play one season in which he was unable to lead the Jets to the playoffs.
What to expect
Everybody will be hoping that Revis is good to go which will put the spotlight on his matchup with Randy Moss. Moss won't be receiving passes from Tom Brady anymore and Favre can often be erratic – it will likely lead to more interceptions than touchdowns
for the Vikes.
The Jets will also be getting wide receiver Santonio Holmes back from suspension, and many will be eager to see what kind of chemistry he and Sanchez have.
The Jets haven't had a rusher run for 100 yards against them this season. How they fare against Adrian Peterson will likely determine the outcome of this game.
The Jets should be okay, and they will win 23-10.
