Brett Favre straight-starts record in jeopardy
Minnesota Vikings quarterback Brett Favre is in danger of ending his National Football League record of 289 straight starts. On Wednesday, Favre stated that if the injury to his right
elbow gets any worse, he will likely not start the Vikings game on Sunday against the Dallas Cowboys.
"I don't want to play just to play," Favre said. "It's kind of a funny injury. It could flare up and get worse."
Favre did not practice on Wednesday in an effort to rest the tendonitis in his elbow, which was clearly evident in the Vikings 29-20 loss to the New York Jets on Monday. Favre missed on
several key throws down the stretch killing the hopes of a fourth quarter comeback. Favre admitted that the pain in his elbow clearly was the problem.
"You're not going to make every throw but I would have made some of those throws," Favre said.
The Vikings have struggled early this season going 1-3 in their first four games. Their only win thus far came at home against the Detroit Lions. With a tough schedule ahead, many feel
it is a must-win game for the Vikings. To make matters worse, Favre continues to be under investigation by the NFL for sending inappropriate photos and messages in 2008 to female reporter Jenn Sterger. However the 41-year-old veteran is keeping things in
perspective.
"I don't rank them," Favre said on Wednesday when asked how the allegations measure up to other issues he's dealt with in his career. "I'm thrilled to be here and have an opportunity to
lead this team to the Super Bowl...There's still a lot of football left. I feel very confident in a lot of ways.
"You go through different things in your life. Football is a very tough sport, mentally and physically. Last year was great. Almost too great. But I woke up this morning and was very eager
to get over here. More so than last year at this time, to get this back on track. I feel confident that (the team) will right itself in the end."
